The Independent Moving Pictures Company ( IMP ) was a film studio .

IMP was founded in 1909 and was Carl Laemmle's first company . Thomas Harper Ince made his directorial debut here in 1910. IMP was later merged with Pat Powers Picture Plays, Bison Life Motion Pictures, the Nestor Company , Champion, Eclair and the Yankee Company to form the Universal Motion Picture Manufacturing Company .
