The IPT-0 Bichinho was a light aircraft produced by the Brazilian manufacturer Instituto de Pesquisas Tecnologicas (IPT).

History and construction

The IPT-0 was developed from 1937 by Frederico A. Brotero and Orton Hoover for the Instituto de Pesquisas Tecnologicas . The aircraft is designed as a low wing aircraft with a fixed tail wheel landing gear and a conventional tail unit. The machine is made entirely of wood and featured a number of technical innovations, such as the elliptical wings. The four machines built were equipped with different engines, on the one hand with a Walter Micron I in-line engine with 44 kW and on the other hand, in the version as IPT-0B Bichinho II , with the Continental C-85-12F four-cylinder Boxer engine with 63 kW. Other engines are said to have also been used. In addition, the actually open single-seat cockpit could also be closed. At least one machine was used for aerobatic training at the Rio Clara City Aero Club until the end .

An IPT-0B Bichinho II flew until around 1988 and was then given to the Museu Aerospacial in Rio de Janeiro, where it has been on display since the restoration.
