International Society of Blood Transfusion

The International Society of Blood Transfusion (ISBT) (English for International Society for Blood Transfusion) is a scientific society founded in 1935, which is dedicated to research on blood transfusions and provides information on how blood transfusion medicine can best serve the interests of patients. The company is based in Amsterdam in the Netherlands. The president from 2016 to 2018 is Ravi Reddy. The society publishes the scientific journal Vox Sanguinis and the member magazine Transfusion Today (English for Transfusion Today) and organizes an international conference every two years. In 1981 she drafted an ethics code for blood transfusions which has since been revised. It also developed the global ISBT 128 standard for the identification, labeling and exchange of information about medical products of human origin such as blood, cells, tissue, milk and organs. This is administered by the non-profit organization International Council for Commonality in Blood Banking Automation (ICCBBA, English for International Council for Uniformity in Blood Banking Automation) based in the USA.
