ISO 11171

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The ISO standard ISO 11171 defines a standardized calibration method for particle counters for liquids. Since the properties of hydraulic operating fluids deteriorate as the degree of contamination increases, the particle counters calibrated in accordance with ISO 11171 are primarily used for contamination control in hydraulic systems.

The standard defines how the various parameters are calibrated and which deviations are permissible. For a full calibration of the particle counter, the following parameters must be calibrated:

  • Noise
  • actually measured volume of liquid
  • Coincidence error
  • Particle sizes
  • Flow rate and its limits
  • Resolution of a certain particle size
  • Particle counting accuracy
