Iliaș Alexandru (Moldovan postage stamp 1999)

Iliaș Alexandru (also: Iliaș III. ) Was the son of the Moldovan prince Alexandru Iliaș .

Iliaș Alexandru ruled the Danube Principality between May 21, 1666 and November 8, 1668. In contrast to many of his predecessors, he was considered a humble and good-natured person who often and gladly helped those in need. He is said to have repaid the debts of others from his private box several times. During his reign, of all times, the unpopular increase in tribute payments to the Hohe Pforte by 25,000 lei per year fell.

Iliaș Alexandru could not withstand the pressure of the pretender to the throne Gheorghe Duca for long and went into exile in Istanbul, where he also died.
