In the realm of the wolf

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Im Reich des Wolfes was published in England in 1992 and in Germany in 1996 and is a novel by British fantasy author David Gemmell . It is the fifth work in his famous Drenai saga. All novels are set in the same world, but at different times and epochs. So the novels are sometimes thousands of years apart. That is also the reason why most of the volumes can be read as individual volumes. With this volume Gemmell changes this and refers in this to his main actor from his third work on the Drenai saga: Waylander , the Butcher. It's been about ten years since the Vagrian Wars were decided and Waylander seems to have vanished from the face of the earth. Now a secret society has put a bounty on him and in this way is forcing him back into the light of day.

action

In the mountains of Skeln, Dakeyras and his beautiful foster daughter Miriel lead a secluded existence. They do not fear the approaching war, they stay away from people and their dreams of power and wealth. Dakeyras has long since left his past as an assassin Waylander. Nevertheless, he instructs Miriel in the use of various weapons and trains her to be an excellent fighter. At the same time he suffers from the death of his companion Danyal , who died in a riding accident.

However, when bounty hunters appear in the mountains with the aim of killing Dakeyras, he is forced to fight again. Dakeyras discovers that Karnak the One-Eyed , the new ruler of the Drenai people , has placed a reward of ten thousand in gold on his head. It turns out that Karnak's only son abused and murdered Miriel's sister Krylla , whereupon Karnak, fearing Waylander's revenge on himself and his son, put the bounty on Dakeyras.
