Imperfectives tantum

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Under imperfectives tantum (as well Perfektiva tantum ) is understood in the linguistics the occurrence of aspektdefektiven forms.

In many languages that have their own verbal aspect , it can happen that some verbs only have a single grammatical aspect form: either these verbs can only be formed using their imperfective form (imperfectives tantum) or they can only be formed using their perfective aspect ( Perfective tantum ). In other words, these aspect-defective forms lack one of the two doublet forms.

As an example from the field of Slavic studies in Bulgarian, the following should be noted: all verb forms that turn out to be Latinized loanwords end in -IRам in the nominal form. All of these forms are imperfectives tantum because they do not have a perfect aspect. These include, for example, телефон ирам (phone calls), дискут ирам (discuss) or колектив ирам (collectivize).
