In vitro maturation
In vitro maturation is a form of in vitro fertilization in which the egg cells mature in the Petri dish . This method is a gentle alternative to the otherwise necessary hormonal stimulation. Polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS)is oftendiagnosedin the case of hormonal disorders. In this case, in vitro maturation (IVM) is used as a treatment option.
procedure
The doctor first removes several egg cells to allow them to ripen in the test tube. When they are mature, he brings them together with the man's semen to induce fertilization. The doctor then inserts the embryos created in the test tube into the woman's uterus. Alternatively, as with ICSI , the sperm cells can also be injected directly into the egg cell to increase the chances of conceiving. This is particularly useful if the sperm quality is limited.
This intervention is very new and is still considered an experimental procedure. Because IVM is quite complex, it is associated with high costs. However, compared to other reproductive medicine procedures, the chances of success are quite low: 10 to 15 percent of treated women become pregnant after one treatment cycle.
