Inner alchemy

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Inner alchemy is a collective term for different traditions and practices that have set themselves the goal of "developing" the elixir of life in the body and "refining" physical substances. The most famous tradition at the moment is the Chinese Neidan ; Similar traditions can also be found among the internal alchemists of the West and in the Arab-Persian region.

The European tradition of alchemy saw inner alchemy, according to the hermetic principle as inside, so outside , as part of the alchemical work. The alchemist identified himself with the prima materia and carried out in his mind the same processes to which he subjected the substances in external alchemy.

Even the quiet Qigong goes over long distances as inner alchemy.
