Institut universitaire de France

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Institut Universitaire de France is an institution in Paris to promote top-level research and strengthen interdisciplinary collaboration . It was established in August 1991 by ministerial decree in the form of a department of the ministry responsible for higher education. Academic teaching staff who are active in research and who are distinguished by internationally recognized research activities are appointed to the institute. The aim is, on the one hand, to encourage university institutions and teachers to perform excellent research, and, on the other hand, to promote high-quality research and teaching in France more evenly, as the previous traditional system of appointment to one of the large Parisian institutions had resulted in a strong centralization.
