Intelsat 11 (formerly also PAS-11 ) is a commercial communications satellite of the satellite operator Intelsat based in Luxembourg .

technology

Intelsat 11 was built on the basis of the STAR-2 satellite bus from Orbital ATK . It has an expected lifespan of around 15 years. The satellite houses a total of 34 active transponders , 16 of them in the C-band and 18 in the Ku-band . It is supplied with around 4.5 kilowatts of electricity by two solar panels and batteries.

history

Orbital ATK announced in April 2005 that it had signed a new satellite contract with Intelsat. Intelsat's spacecraft provides C- and Ku-band fixed telecommunications and direct television services from a mid-Atlantic orbital position. The satellite is the fourth that Intelsat has ordered from Orbital since 2001. Intelsat previously purchased three C-band satellites for Orbital's domestic communications services. Intelsat 11 was as payload the first time the country Launch- Zenit booked rocket, but was established in March 2007 to a five Ariane - launcher rebooked.

In early 2006, Intelsat ordered a backup satellite for Intelsat 11, which was designated as PAS-11R. In May 2007, Intelsat confirmed the contract to complete the satellite in 2008. PAS-11R was launched in February 2010 as the Intelsat 16 .

Previously, Intelsat 11 was launched on October 5, 2007 with an Ariane 5 rocket from the Center Spatial Guyanais together with Optus D2 in a GTO .
