Intercultural moderation

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Intercultural moderation (IKM) is an approach in school social work that is used in particular in schools in socially disadvantaged areas with a high proportion of students with a so-called migration background .

The intercultural moderation is located in the field of youth welfare and school social work. Native-speaking social pedagogues initiate the dialogue between the actors, mediate between students, teachers, parents and the district and work to improve the school and learning climate.

The aim is to promote intercultural skills, to break down prejudices and to understand different perspectives. Through presence in the schools and through sensitive interference, similarities and differences are made visible, conveyed in the event of conflicts and new solution strategies are initiated. Intercultural moderation in schools expands the working methods of school social work and school pedagogy to include intercultural education and an increased social space-oriented opening of the school.
