RAI Exhibition and Convention Center

The IBC , together with the NAB , is one of the two most important trade fairs worldwide for film, television and radio production and distribution. It takes place every September in Amsterdam in the RAI conference center. All relevant broadcasters, device manufacturers and technological umbrella organizations take part.

Visitors

The IBC 2007 was attended by 46,964 registered guests from 120 nations. Around 30% of these were exhibitors or invited speakers.

deals

The IBC is basically divided into 2 areas:

  • The exhibition in which around 1300 companies present their technologies and services on 1000 stands.
  • The conference, which deals with a specific topic of the day on the 7 days of the trade fairs.

In addition to these two focal points, there are various other subject areas, including:

  • the IBC D-Cinema. The latest content and technologies from the cinema industry are presented here in maximum quality.
  • the outside area. The most modern OB vans are presented here.

In addition, special events are held every year, for example UHDV was presented in Europe for the first time in 2006 .

Amsterdam and the IBC

The trade fair is a significant economic factor for the host city. During the IBC, the city's hotel capacities are typically at full capacity, and hoteliers increase room rates by up to 300% during this period. It is therefore advisable for tourists not to book hotels during the exhibition week in Amsterdam.

Media supporting program

IBC operates its own television program, which can be received terrestrially and via cable during the fair in Amsterdam.

Entrance fees

Admission to the trade fair is free up to approx. Four weeks before the start of the event if you have registered by then. After that, entry to the fair costs up to 100 euros. Access to the conferences can be booked in various ways and can cost up to several hundred euros.

Role in industry

While announcements and prototypes are typically decisive at the NAB, the finished devices are usually presented at the IBC. The RED camera was announced at the NAB 2006 , and running images of this camera were shown for the first time at the IBC of the same year.
