International Max Rostal Competition

The International Max Rostal Competition is a music competition that has existed since 1991 for young musicians up to the age of 27. It has been held in Berlin since 1997 and was held for violin and viola at the same time for the first time since it was first held in 2009 .

The competition is sponsored by the Max Rostal Foundation, organized by the Berlin University of the Arts and patron Lothar Zagrosek .

particularities

Max Rostal initiated this competition in order to offer young people the opportunity, apart from the usual competition programs, to present special facets of their artistic abilities in demanding programs. The main weight in the assessment of the competition participants is placed on their musicality, interpretation, sense of style and charisma. A high technical level is required, but not a decisive standard. The aim of the competition is to promote the ability and development of talent and creativity of future generations of musicians. With this concept, the Max Rostal Competition has earned a special international reputation since it was founded. Candidates from all over the world appreciate the atmosphere of this competition.

jury

When selecting the jury, great importance is attached to a wide range of musical and instrumental technical capacities. The engagement of internationally renowned artistic and educational specialists is given a special focus. In addition, different generations of artists are represented in the jury and guarantee an assessment horizon that reflects the current situation in musical life.
