International Scientific Optical Network

The International Scientific Optical Network (ISON) is a group of around 20 astronomical observatories in ten countries.

The aim of this association is to track down objects in space. It is directed by the Keldysch Institute for Applied Mathematics (Russian: Институт прикладной математики им. М.В.Келдыша), which belongs to the Russian Academy of Sciences .

The discoveries made by this organization include comets C / 2010 X1 (Elenin) and C / 2012 S1 (ISON) . The latter was named after the abbreviation for the observation network.
