The International Association of the Rhine Ship Register (IVR) is an international organization for the safety of inland navigation. Its headquarters are in Rotterdam .

history

The IVR was founded in 1874 by insurance companies from Germany and Switzerland (Rheinschiffsregisterverband). The intention was to subject all inland vessels to be insured to a suitability test beyond the statutory inspections (by ship inspection commissions) to include the ships found to be fit in a register. In 1879 the 1st IVR register appeared. After the end of the Second World War, the association was re-established in Rotterdam in 1947 under the name of the International Association of the Rhine Ship Register , with the original insurance companies now also joined by the shipping associations and shipping companies from all the Rhine bank states and Belgium. In order to assert the influence of the government representatives of these states in the IVR, the Central Commission for Navigation on the Rhine (CCNR) in Strasbourg took over the patronage of the IVR.
