United Nations International Independent Commission of Inquiry
The UN International Independent Investigation Commission ( English United Nations International Independent Investigation Commission , UNIIIC ) was one by the Resolution 1595 of the UN Security Founded in April 2005 Commission of Inquiry into the assassination of former Lebanese Prime Minister Rafic Hariri on 14 February 2005 It followed the fact-finding mission, led by Irish Police Officer Peter FitzGerald , which led to the FitzGerald report .
Its first chairman was the German lawyer Detlev Mehlis , who presented the so-called Mehlis report in October 2005 . He was succeeded in January 2006 by the Belgian Serge Brammertz . From November 2007 he was followed by the Canadian Daniel Bellemare . He was also the accuser of the 2007 newly established special tribunal for Lebanon ( STL ).
On February 28, 2009, UNIIIC ceased operations after a total of eleven reports had been drawn up.
