International Youth Voluntary Service

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The International Youth Voluntary Service ( IJFD ) was set up by the German Federal Ministry for Families as an opportunity to volunteer abroad in the social or ecological area as well as in peace and reconciliation work.

The service

The IJFD claims to be a learning and orientation service. The volunteers should be able to acquire a focus on social and intercultural skills and are supported pedagogically during this time. In addition, in the case of a twelve-month service, there is a visit of at least 25 seminar days, which also include preparatory and follow-up events. The assignments abroad last between 6 and 18 months. The areas of application are non-profit institutions such as children's and youth institutions, old people's homes, educational institutions, but also in environmental and nature conservation.

Emergence

The IJFD is based on a guideline of the Federal Ministry for Family, Seniors, Women and Youth from 2010. There is no legal regulation. He would like to address young people between the ages of 18 and 26 who would like to spend a year abroad, develop an understanding of other cultures, promote intercultural dialogue and want to orientate themselves professionally.

carrier

The IJFD is carried out by approved organizations on their own responsibility.

financing

The Federal Ministry of Family Affairs supports the volunteers through the IJFD with a fixed amount of up to 350 euros per month. The participation fee is made up of public funding and support group contributions. It covers the important international insurance, board and lodging in the host country, monthly pocket money and participation in the mandatory educational support program. The volunteers have to cover part of the costs, be it through their own savings or through the establishment of a support or donor group.
