The Conseil International de la Danse (CID) (German International Dance Council , English International Dance Council ) is an international umbrella organization for all forms of dance.

history

As a non-commercial international NGO , it was founded on November 12, 1973 in a constituent assembly with the support of UNESCO at its headquarters in Paris , where it is also based. Its first president was the German choreographer Kurt Jooss . CID sees itself as a global forum that aims to bring together international, national and local organizations as well as individual dance activities. It represents the art of dance in general and advises UNESCO, national and local government agencies, international organizations and institutions. 700 associations, unions, schools, groups and festivals as well as 4,400 individuals from 158 countries are currently represented as members of the CID.

World dance day

At the suggestion of the International Committee of Dance of the International Theater Institute (ITI of UNESCO), World Dance Day was proclaimed for the first time in 1982 , and has been held annually on April 29 worldwide since then. This day commemorates Jean-Georges Noverre's birthday . CID members and CID sections support the implementation of this memorial day worldwide.
