Invariance is the immutability of quantities. The associated adjective is invariant . The term is used in the following sciences:
- in physics and mathematics related to transformation (mathematics)
- Invariance of physical laws under symmetry (physics) , in particular invariance under:
- Shifting and uniform movement of the coordinates in classical physics as Galilei invariance, see Galilei transformation
 - Displacement and uniform movement of the coordinates in the theory of relativity, see Lorentz transformation
 - spatial reflection, see parity (physics)
 - temporal shift, see time invariance
 - temporal mirroring, see time reversal (physics)
 - Exchange of particles and antiparticles, see charge conjugation
 - several transformations at the same time, see for example CP-invariance and CPT-invariance
 - Calibration transformations

 - Invariance of physical quantities
- of the chosen reference system: main invariant
 - of scaling, see scale invariance

 - Invariance of physical laws under symmetry (physics) , in particular invariance under:
 - in economics, as part of the Coase theorem (invariance thesis)
 - in computer science, in the area of object-oriented programming as a relationship between the elements of an inheritance hierarchy, see invariance (computer science)
 - in developmental psychology, see Jean Piaget #Stage of Concrete-Operational Intelligence

The invariant is the size itself that remains unchanged:
- In mathematics, a variable associated with an object that does not change with a suitable class of modifications of the object, see invariant (mathematics)
 - In computer science, a statement that applies beyond the execution of certain program commands, see invariant (computer science)
