Invariance

Invariance is the immutability of quantities. The associated adjective is invariant . The term is used in the following sciences:

in physics and mathematics related to transformation (mathematics)
- Invariance of physical laws under symmetry (physics) , in particular invariance under:
  - Shifting and uniform movement of the coordinates in classical physics as Galilei invariance, see Galilei transformation
  - Displacement and uniform movement of the coordinates in the theory of relativity, see Lorentz transformation

The invariant is the size itself that remains unchanged:

In mathematics, a variable associated with an object that does not change with a suitable class of modifications of the object, see invariant (mathematics)
In computer science, a statement that applies beyond the execution of certain program commands, see invariant (computer science)
