Isaiah L. Green

Isaiah Lewis Green (born December 28, 1761 in Barnstable , Province of Massachusetts Bay , †  December 5, 1841 in Cambridge , Massachusetts ) was an American politician . Between 1805 and 1809 and again from 1811 to 1813 he represented the state of Massachusetts in the US House of Representatives .

Career

After a good education, Isaiah Green studied at Harvard University until 1781 . After studying law and being admitted to the bar, he began to work in this profession. At the same time he embarked on a political career as a member of the Democratic Republican Party . In the congressional election of 1804 he was elected to the US House of Representatives in Washington, DC in the eighth constituency of Massachusetts , where he succeeded Lemuel Williams on March 4, 1805 . After re-election, he was able to complete two legislative terms in Congress until March 3, 1809 .

In the elections of 1810 Green was re-elected to Congress, where he could spend another term between March 4, 1811 and March 3, 1813. During this time, the British-American War began in 1812 . Between 1814 and 1837 he was in charge of Customs in Barnstable County ; after that he practiced as a lawyer again. He died in Cambridge on December 5, 1841.
