Istituto Storico Italiano per il Medio Evo

The Istituto Italiano per il Medio Evo is an Italian non-university research institute for historical studies based in Rome . It is attached to the Giunta centrale per gli studi storici ("Central Committee for Historical Studies").

The institute was founded under the name Istituto Storico Italiano (Italian Historical Institute) in 1883, and since 1934 it has had its current name Istituto Italiano per il Medio Evo (Italian Institute for [the study of] the Middle Ages ). Numerous series of publications such as the edition of the Rerum Italicarum Scriptores founded by Lodovico Antonio Muratori , or the Fonti per la Storia d'Italia series and the Fontium Historiae Medii Aevi repertory are supervised by the institute. The institute is located in the Palazzo Borromini in the historic center of Rome, not far from Piazza Navona . It has a special library for historical studies.
