Iulius Verecundus

Iulius Verecundus (his praenomen is not known) was a member of the Roman knighthood ( Eques ) living in the 3rd century AD .

A Vindolanda plaque , which was found at the Vindolanda fort and which is dated May 18 of an indefinite year (probably 92/97 AD), shows that Verecundus was prefect of the Cohors I Tungrorum , who was responsible for this Time was stationed in the province of Britannia . On the board you will find the list of the strength of the unit.

Iulius Verecundus is also listed on other Vindolanda tablets; He is mentioned as prefect on Plates 210, 211, 857 and 892. Table 857 represents a further list of the team strength of the cohort.
