technology

The box is 23 centimeters high and equipped with a 4 inch (10 cm) bass-midrange driver and a 1/2 inch (12 mm) polycarbonate / titanium dome that is protected against contact behind a fine metal grille. The crossover frequency of this two-way system is around 6 kilohertz, which is relatively high compared to other loudspeakers of this type. This favors a high load capacity. The chassis used are magnetically shielded and are flush with the front wall.

The "Control One" was and is still available in different versions: the 1G version (German, respectively Guaranteed) came on the market around 1990 and in 1999 its new edition 1G Universe . These versions have a more neutral midrange. The simplified, magnetically unshielded 1C version is consistently on the market . The current X models are 6 dB louder at 19 kilohertz than between 300 hertz and 6 kilohertz.

As an accessory, the box can be flown with a U-shaped bracket or equipped with a ball joint bracket for ceiling and wall mounting.

review

In July 1987 the trade magazine "STEREO" tested the "original version" "JBL Control 1" (One) and Bernd Nürnberg wrote:

“The first time you listened to it, a pleasantly open, transparent, largely discoloration-free sound was immediately apparent, without any sharpness. Only a slight depression in the upper mid-range sometimes resulted in a somewhat subtle sound impression, especially with voices and single instruments. The tendency that often exists with very small speakers to sound a bit pressed and strained at high volumes was not present with the JBL. On the contrary, the achievable sound pressure is impressive, the protective circuit only comes into action at extremely high volumes, but then the sound becomes audible. Of course, you also have to cut back on the bass range, below 100 Hertz there isn't much going on. "
