James F. Tent

James Foster Tent is an American historian .

Life

James F. Tent attended Dartmouth College and studied history at the University of Wisconsin , wrote the master's thesis German social democracy and the general strike 1890–1914 in 1969 and received his doctorate in 1973 with the dissertation Eugen Richter, Manchester liberal and German statesman . Tent has taught New European History, German Contemporary History, Military History and the History of the Cold War at the University of Alabama at Birmingham (UAB) in Birmingham since 1974 . He became a professor in 1990 and was dean of the History Department from 2002 to 2008, as well as a member of the UAB supervisory board. In 2010 he retired.

Tent has published several monographs and numerous reviews on 20th century German history . His research focus is German post-war history.

Tent was a historical consultant for a film project for the BBC and NDR and was a commentator for the History Channel .
