James Whelan (born July 11, 1996 in Melbourne ) is an Australian cyclist.

Athletic career

James Whelan began his athletic career as a long-distance runner . In addition to his sporting activities, he studies urban planning (as of 2018).

In 2017 Whelan took silver in road racing at the Oceania Championships. The following year, he won the U23 race of the Tour of Flanders , having previously finished second in the Australian U23 road championship. He finished fourth in the overall ranking of the UCI Oceania Tour 2018 . In 2020 he finished second in the mountains classification of the Herald Sun Tour .
