Jann M. Witt

Jann Markus Witt (born September 20, 1967 in Eckernförde ) is a German historian .

After graduating from the Jungmannschule in 1988 , Witt did basic military service as a marine security soldier . From 1989 to 1995 he studied Middle and Modern History, Political Science and Public Law at the Christian-Albrechts-Universität zu Kiel (MA 1995) and the Thames Valley University in Ealing. In 1999 he was awarded a doctorate in Kiel with a thesis on the northern European merchant ship captains from the 17th to the 19th century. phil. PhD. He was a doctoral scholarship holder of the Friedrich Naumann Foundation and received technical support from the private lecturer Martin Rheinheimer .

He then worked for the Schleswig-Holstein newspaper publisher . In 2003/04 he was advisor for gifted students at the Friedrich Naumann Foundation. In 2005 he became a lecturer at the North Sea Academy in Leck. He also advised the German Navy Federation , whose historian he has been at the Laboe Marine Memorial since 2008 . His focus is on European maritime and naval history , the regional history of Schleswig-Holstein and the history of the Hanseatic League .

Witt is a member of the Scientific Advisory Board of the German Society for Shipping and Naval History . As an active reserve officer ( frigate captain dR) he practiced u. a. as a staff officer for military history at the Naval School Mürwik in Flensburg.
