Jayavarman III.
Jayavarman III. was the son of Jayavarman II and the second ruler of the Kingdom of Angkor .
An inscription by Prasat Sak describes the following: "When he failed to catch a wild elephant while hunting, the deity promised him that if he built a sanctuary for it, she would keep the animal for her." Some temples are then in the reign of Jayavarmans III. has been dated, although there are no direct inscriptions. He may have just started a construction project, but it was overshadowed by the projects of his more ambitious successor Indravarman I.
Jayavarman III. died in 877, possibly while hunting a wild elephant.
