Jimmy Pritchett

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Jimmy Pritchett is an American rockabilly musician.

Life

Pritchett was discovered in early 1958 by Stan Kesler , musician and sound engineer at Sun Records . In the spring of 1958, Kesler arranged a session for Pritchett in the studio of the WHBQ station in Memphis , Tennessee , but had difficulties with the equipment there, so he booked Sam Phillips ' Sun Studio. The band that Pritchett accompanied on the two songs That's the Way I Feel / Nothing On My Mind were likely the Snearly Ranch Boys with Smokey Joe Baugh on piano . However, the usual drummer was replaced that day by studio musician Jimmy Van Eaton .

That's the Way I Feel was a fast rockabilly in the typical "Sun Sound" with an unusually virtuoso piano solo in the style of Jerry Lee Lewis ' for Baugh , while Pritchett on the B-side (which was written by Ramon Maupin ) from a certain " Van “was accompanied by vocals. However, the identity of this singer is not clear ( Billboard mentioned female background vocals). The single was released in May 1958 on Kesler's Crystal label and received positive reviews from Billboard, but the record was a failure.

Pritchett then disappeared from the music business.
