Johab

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Johab (in Windows code page 1361 ) is an encoding of the Korean script . It is described in KS C 5601: 1992, Annex 3.

Johab is a 15-bit encoding where each Jamo is encoded in 5 bits. Three Jamos thus form a 15-bit long syllable. In contrast to the Wansung coding, all 11,172 possible Hangul syllables can be formed in Johab .

Johab has meanwhile been largely replaced by the code page 949 and Unicode .
