Jone (opera)
Jone ( Jone ovvero L'ultimo giorno di Pompei ) is a romantic opera in four acts by the Italian composer Errico Petrella (1813–1877). The piece is titled after the name of the protagonist. The opera premiered on January 26, 1858 at La Scala in Milan . The libretto was written by Giovanni Peruzzini (1815–1869) based on the novel The Last Days of Pompeii (1834) by Edward George Bulwer-Lytton . Participants in the world premiere were the soprano Augusta Albertini-Baucardé (Jone), the mezzo-sopranos Carmelina Poch (Nidia) and Linda Fiorio (Dirce), the tenors Carlo Negrini (Glauco) and Carlo Baucardé (Clodio), the baritones Giovanni Guicciardi (Arbace) and (sacerdote) as well as the basses Giuseppe Bernasconi (Sallustio) and Annibale Biacchi (Burbo).
