Josef Schmid (political scientist)

Josef Schmid (* 1956 ) is a German political scientist . He is professor for political economy and policy field analysis at the University of Tübingen . Schmid was a member of the Rürup Commission and advises the Bertelsmann Foundation .

Life

Schmid studied political science, sociology and administrative science (Magister) at the University of Konstanz from 1978 and graduated with a thesis on the development of welfare state programs and practice of bourgeois parties using the example of the English Conservative Party and the German CDU. He did his doctorate on "The CDU. Organizational structures, politics and functioning of a party in federalism " (published 1990) and wrote his habilitation on " Welfare associations in modern welfare states. Social services in a historical-comparative perspective" (published 1996). From 1989 he taught at the Ruhr University in Bochum, in Konstanz and was appointed professor for comparative political science at the University of Osnabrück in 1997 and a year later as professor for "political economics and comparative political field analysis" at the Institute for Political Science in Tübingen. Schmid is its dean today.

Josef Schmid is married and has two children.

Schmid deals with the comparison of welfare states and their systems. He examines economic, labor, educational and social policy and their integration into a welfare state pension system and researches organizations.

Schmid was a member of the Rürup Commission and on the "employment policy advisory board" of the Bertelsmann Foundation .
