Josef W. Meri

Josef Waleed Meri ( Arabic يوسف وليد مرعيYūsuf Walīd Marʿī; Hebrew יוסף מרעי; * 1969 in Chicago ) is an American scholar in the field of premodern Islamic history and culture and the dialogue between religions. His family is from Jerusalem .

Life

Josef W. Meri studied Medieval Islamic Studies at Wolfson College of the University of Oxford . He was a Special Scholar-in-Residence at the Royal Aal al-Bayt Institute for Islamic Thought (Royal Aal al-Bayt Institute for Islamic Thought), Jordan , and project coordinator of the Great Tafsir of the Qur'an Project. He was Academic Director of the Center for the Study of Muslim-Jewish Relations at the Woolf Institute in Cambridge and a Fellow of St. Edmund's College , University of Cambridge . In the academic year 2013/2014 Meri Allianz was Visiting Professor of Islamic Studies at the Ludwig Maximilians University in Munich .

Meri was one of the 138 signatories of the open letter a common word between us and you ( A Common Word Between Us and You ), the personalities of Islam on 13 October 2007, "leaders of Christian churches everywhere" (Engl. "Leaders of Christian Churches , everywhere ... “).
