Joseph David Kucan (born March 19, 1965 in Henderson, Nevada ), often referred to as Joe Kucan , is an American director , actor , screenwriter and casting director in the computer game industry and the theater. He gained fame as the director of the American game developer Westwood Studios , for whose real-time strategy game series Command & Conquer he played the recurring role of the evil leader Kane. He lives in Las Vegas , Nevada .

Life

Joseph D. Kucan grew up as the son of two teachers with two brothers. Among other things, he worked for the Rainbow Company, a youth theater in Las Vegas. He had been working for the computer game developer Westwood Studios since 1993 , when they began to work with the CD-ROM as a data carrier and wanted to incorporate more multimedia content. Initially, Kucan's job was to manage the audio recording for the voice output. As development progressed and compression techniques improved, Westwood began experimenting with film sequences. With his theater and film experience, Kucan also took responsibility for the filming.

For Command & Conquer: The Tiberium Conflict , he initially experimented with simple portraits during the course of development, later more and more cinematic sequences were added that became the style for Command & Conquer ( C&C ). For Westwood he was involved in the development of all parts of the game series with the exception of C&C: Generals . He directed the video cutscenes for almost all parts and appeared several times himself as the character of Kane . Kucan was originally supposed to record a video as the villain just for video compression testing purposes. Westwood founder Brett Sperry won over the recordings, so he asked Kucan to take on the role of Kane. Kane is the messianic leader of the military sect, the Brotherhood of Nod, which is in conflict with the Global Defensive Initiative (GDI). In the Guinness Book of Records he was listed as an actor with the longest recurring role in a computer game franchise. In addition, he was involved as an actor and director or Director of Dramatic Assets for a variety of films and computer games . He was also a writer for the computer game Blade Runner .

With the closure of Westwood in 2003, his activities in the gaming industry also ended. Only for the continuation of the C&C series did he return to his role as Kane in 2007/2008 for C&C 3: Tiberium Wars and its add-on Kane's Rache , and in 2010 for C&C 4: Tiberian Twilight .

In 2013 he founded the A Public Fit Theater Company in Las Vegas with his brother and partner
