Jumala

Jumala was the supreme deity in Finnish mythology . His name means "the heavenly one". Little is known about him except that he was the patron of the oak . He was later replaced by Ukko , who was also one of the supreme gods, but as a deity of the sky and air, could rule over the rain.

Under Christian influence , belief in Ukko was replaced by belief in the biblical God , so Jumala has stood for the Christian God ever since.
