Juxtaposition

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

A juxtaposition (from Latin iuxta "close to it", "next to" and positio "position", "position") means close proximity, for example two brain zones (in anatomy) or two sensitivities (such as "love and sorrow") .

It is important that the two are close to each other, but can be clearly distinguished from one another and can even be completely independent of one another. To infer a relationship from a juxtaposition is generally a logical fallacy .

In detail, the term Juxtaposition describes:

  • the anatomically close location of two structures or body parts
  • the attachment of similar parts during crystal growth
  • joining two words directly to form a new one, e.g. B. Boredom
  • in the case of a multiplication, the connection without a point or other symbol, for example ab instead of a · b
