The Kairaku-en ( Japanese. 偕 楽 園 ) in Mito , the capital of the Ibaraki Prefecture , belongs together with the Kenroku-en and the Kōraku-en to the Three Famous Gardens of Japan ( Sanmeien ).

Information about the garden

The garden was founded by Nariaki Tokugawa (1800–1860) in 1841. Since the founder of the garden was a fan of plum trees , the park has a very large plum grove compared to the other famous gardens. In the last days of the Second World War , the park was almost completely destroyed, but rebuilt in 1958.
