Cairo trilogy
The Cairo Trilogy ( Arabic الثلاثية, DMG aṯ-Ṯulāṯīya orثلاثية القاهرة / Ṯulāṯīyat al-Qāhira ) is a novel trilogy by the Egyptian author and Nobel Prize winner Nagib Mahfuz . It was written between 1946–1952, but did not appear until 1956–1957. Mahfuz deals with the life of a Cairo family over several generations (1917–1944).
The three volumes are:
- Between the palaces (Arabic:بين القصرين / Baina l-Qaṣrain , Arabic first edition 1956; German translation by Doris Kilias 1992)
- Palace of Longing (قصر الشوق / Qaṣr aš-Šawq , 1957, German 1993)
- Sugar alley (السكرية / as-Sukkarīya , 1957, German 1994)
