Kakehashi Literature Prize

The Kakehashi Literature Prize ("Kakehashi" means building a bridge ; Merck Kakehashi Literature Prize until 2019) has been awarded every two years since 2014 to translators who propose a German-language literary work for translation into Japanese, as well as to the authors. The award is being advertised by Merck and the Goethe Institute in Tokyo. The aim of this is to promote contemporary German-language literature in Japan more strongly and to recognize the work of the translation.

The total prize money is € 20,000 for the author and the translator, and for the latter there is also an agreement for the translation of the selected work into Japanese. The award will take place in Tokyo .
