Fighting rings

The fighting rings is a medieval martial art that especially in the Holy Roman Empire was practiced. In addition to holds and strangles, it also contained throws and lever techniques that are similar to today's judo and aikido techniques .

The combat rings served to train knights in unarmed self-defense. Written records have been found mainly in the late Middle Ages, however combat wrestling was practiced throughout the Middle Ages and the Renaissance and was still practiced in the 17th century. Today fighting wrestling is no longer practiced.

Books on this were written by Hans Talhoffer , among others . Most of the books and illustrations are from the 14th, 15th and 16th centuries and often show combat wrestling in connection with weapons such as swords and daggers.
