Kansas Pacific Railway

The Kansas Pacific Railway was an American railroad company .

Its origins are in the Leavenworth, Pawnee and Western Railroad of 1855; In 1880 she was part of the Union Pacific Railroad .

Work on the main line from Kansas City to the west began in September 1863. The following year, the first 40 miles to Lawrence were in operation. In the fall of 1866 the route reached as far as Junction City ; a locomotive shed was built there. Supported by investors from Germany, work began in October 1869 to extend the line to Colorado. In March 1870 the route reached Kit Carson (Colorado) .
