Capillary pycnometer
The capillary pycnometer is a measuring device for determining the grain density ρ s of a soil. The grain density denotes the mass of the solid substance in the unit of space (g / cm³). For quartz sands this is around 2.65 g / cm³, but can be just 1.00 g / cm³ as with lignite or up to 3.00 for basalt. Here, the dry mass is determined after the soil sample has dried at 105 ° C; the grain volume is determined with the capillary pycnometer.
