Karl G. Grell
Karl Gottlieb Grell (born December 28, 1912 in Burg an der Wupper , † October 4, 1994 ) was a German zoologist .
Karl Grell received his doctorate in Bonn in 1934, where he had written his dissertation on the digestive tract of the common scorpion fly ( Panorpa communis ). As a result, he mainly worked on single-celled organisms, including at the Max Planck Institute for Biology in Tübingen . In 1956 he published the first edition of his textbook Protozoology , the second edition of which was also published as an English edition in 1973. From 1959 to 1983 Grell was co-editor of the journal Archiv für Protistenkunde . In addition to his work on unicellular animals, Karl Grell made a great contribution to the knowledge of the Placozoa , a morphological one very simply built group of animals.
