The adjective catholic (from ancient Greek καθολικός kathikós 'all-encompassing') refers to:

  • the Roman Catholic Church , the largest church in Christianity, consisting of several particular churches that recognize the Pope's primacy of jurisdiction
  • to Catholicism , the whole of Christianity Roman Catholic imprint
  • the catholicity , essential property of the Church, adherence to Catholic doctrine in the universality and unity of the Church
  • those churches that see themselves as part of the universal church in catholicity - see ecclesiology
