Kawasaki Z 750 LTD
The Z 750 LTD was built in two versions. On the one hand with the well-known four-cylinder from the normal Z series of the 1980s, on the other hand with the parallel twin from the Z 750 B which was built from 1976 to 1979. This article is about the variant with a parallel twin engine.
The following variants of the Z 750 Twin LTD have existed over the years.
Construction year | model | technical changes |
---|---|---|
1980 | KZ 750-G1 | Cast wheels / US model |
1982 | KZ 750-M1 | Spoked wheels / US model |
1982 | KZ 750-S1 | Cast wheels (last model with a front disc brake) |
1982 | KZ 750-Y1 | Spoked wheels, double disc brakes |
1983 | KZ 750-S2 KZ750-Y2 |
No clutch, plug on idle screw, telescopic fork, brake calipers, S2: cast wheels, Y2: spoked wheels |
1983 | KZ 750-K1 | Sidestand switch, automatic turn signal reset, idle detection changed, toothed belt, cast wheels |
Fundamental changes with the introduction of the LTD in contrast to the Z 750 B:
- Frame geometry, front and rear mudguards
- Tank, fuel tap
- Fork and front wheel
- Drum brake instead of rear disc brake
- Contactless ignition system
- Exhaust system
- Carburetors and throttle cables
- Clutch actuation
- Sprockets
- Shock absorbers
Despite good test reports, especially due to the strong parallel twin, the LTD never achieved significant sales figures and remained an exotic in the Kawasaki program. The focus in the 1980s was on the 4-cylinder models, as these were more associated with the name Kawasaki than a parallel twin à la Norton due to the success of the Z 900 (Frankenstein's daughter). Maybe it was also due to the rather baroque soft chopper design of the 1980s.
