Khor Shingawi

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

At Khor Shingawi in what is now northern Sudan, there are the remains of a palatial building that probably dates back to the Christian period (approx. 500 to 1500).

Khor Shingawi is about 12.5 kilometers from the Nile, south of the fourth cataract of the Nile, flooded by the Merowe Reservoir . The building is largely isolated in the landscape. The building is rectangular and made of stones. It is divided into three parts with around 20 rooms and corridors, which are located on two levels, with some of the rooms spread over a podium about one meter high. In the center there is a courtyard where there is also a ramp that leads to the podium. The building is only known from site inspections. Its former function and exact date remain unknown for the time being.
