The specialty of the area is the high biodiversity and the presence of 13 different species of primates . A large number of chimpanzees ( Pan troglodytes ) live in the forests and have found their most important refuge in Uganda here. In addition to the black and white coat monkey (also black and white colubus, Colobus guereza ), the Uganda colobus monkey (also red guereza or red colubus, Piliocolobus tephrosceles ) occurs there. Another special feature is the occurrence of forest elephants ( Loxodonta cyclotis ).

General

Since the conversion to a national park and the improved development, the area has become an important attraction for tourists in Uganda. There are several lodges and campsites nearby, as well as simple accommodation in the national park itself. Guided tours are offered daily, with the opportunity to see chimpanzees that are used to humans up close. Forest and night walks led by rangers as well as a multi-day hike through the forest are also offered. Between the Queen Elizabeth National Park and the Kibale National Park there is a so-called Wildlife Corridor in order to ensure a game change between the two areas. To the east of the park is the Bigodi wetland sanctuary within the Magombe swamp . This area is also rich in primates and also offers very good bird watching opportunities. As part of an ecotourism project, the neighboring communities offer guided tours and other activities here.
