Kidney Disease: Improving Global Outcomes

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Kidney Disease: Improving Global Outcomes , or KDIGO for short , is an independent, non-profit organization whose goal is to improve the treatment of patients with kidney disease worldwide. KDIGO was founded in 2003 and is subject to Belgian law. KDIGO coordinates the development of evidence-based clinical guidelines in the field of kidney diseases. The KDIGO guidelines are developed by international working groups. The working groups cooperate with a professional Evidence Review Team, which systematically reviews the scientific papers that have appeared on a specific topic. The quality of the scientific statements and the strength of the recommendations are assessed according to the procedure of evidence-based medicine and divided into evidence classes and recommendation grades. The guidelines will be presented to the public for review before final approval.

The following KDIGO guidelines have been published so far:

  • Hepatitis C in chronic kidney disease
  • Clinical diagnosis, evaluation, prevention and treatment of disorders of mineral and bone metabolism in chronic kidney disease
  • Care of kidney transplant recipients
  • Acute kidney failure
  • Glomerulonephritis
  • Blood pressure in chronic kidney disease
  • Chronic kidney disease anemia
  • Classification and management of chronic kidney disease
