Kill ring

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Kill-Ring ( English to kill  = delete and ring  = ring buffer ) is a concept used by the Emacs text editor to automatically store the text sections recorded by copying and pasting in a reserved memory area in the order in which they were cut. This enables later insert operations to insert not only the text passage cut last, but also previously edited text sections.

The kill-ring is accessed in the Emacs text editor by repeatedly pressing the key combination + after Strg+ Yfor "Paste" , whereupon the penultimate, third from last, ... are inserted one after the other instead of the last copied or cut text passage. AltY

In Emacs, the number of entries in the kill ring is fixed (default value is 20 entries). The buffer is organized in a ring. This ensures that the latest 20 marked text passages are always accessible without additional time-consuming copying operations.
